The front cover of the magazine has several features. This magazine deos not have a primary focus as it tends to give viewers infromation on a range of films. The target audience of the magazine Sight and Sound is over 24's based on the front cover of the magazine. It appeals to the audience by using decoration such as multi-coloured dots with leaves trying to catch readers attention. In addition the 'HIDDDEN GEMS' is swaying towards a female audience as this phrase is typically associated wedding days, presents for ladies (normally happy days). The magazine is trying to impose this ‘wow’ theme in the front cover, enticing a variety of audiences. The magazine has the subtitle 'INTERNATIONAL FILM MAGAZINE' which indicated that the magazine has a reputation for being a respected magazine. On the front cover it says 75th year, which shows that the magazine has been successful in giving readers knowledge of films. The Title Sight and Sound is in black font, with the background in yellow. The layout of the title is simplistic but effective as its aim is not to generate huge audiences through its title alone. Also as this magazine is not well-known compared to 'Total Film', and then the use of plain titles would attract a different type of audience becoming unique. Moreover in the bottom of the magazine includes actors, which are the regular A-list actors. These actors include Andy Warhol, Alin Resnais. This connotes to me that he magazine is a small budget magazine trying to entice viewers who watch independent film rather than blockbusters.

Imagery/colour
There is a consistent white background throughout the magazine. However when it come to features some of them have been giving a different colour background for the entire page, this may be done to draw the reader among these articles in particular when flicking through the magazine. The contents page consists of a montage of images from various films, as well as what page you can go to fro a review of the actual film. There are advertisements for films including independent movies. Most of the images include actor of different films. In addition when introducing a new topic, each topic is of different colour such as film of the month, where a blue strip is used depending on the genre of the film the varies.
Layout
The Layout of the magazine in terms of pictures/text ratio is fairly similar. The magazine consists of about 50% images and 50% text. This is done to give viewers a visual insight of the film as well as textual knowledge. The ratio used in this magazine gives me an indication that I should use similar proportions in my own magazine. The text in this particular magazine is written in narrow columns; moreover the average image in the article is relatively small. The location of the images differs. The content is organised under titles and sub-headings indicating various information’s about a specific film.
Content
The content in an extract called 'Back to school' is about public schools and their cinematic expression. The article goes on to say that since the 1950s the theme ‘people ad hero’ (in world war films) was replaced by a celebration of individual heroism. Another sub-heading called a note of cynicism discusses hoe a middle aged school master finds public schools restraint inadequate to cope with his growing sense of despair. This connotes to me that the magazine is trying to express feeling of characters to viewers through a particular film. The magazine content covers various genres of different types of films such as 'Harry Potter' a fantasy film and 'Ocean's Thirteen' an action film. Overall other segments of the magazine are devoted to films and books such as oceans 12.
Audience
The audience for sight and sound magazine is mainly middle-class film 'lovers'. This is evident through the sophistication of the writing. Moreover it is notable that the magazine is aimed at the middle-class due to advertisements of Mercedes cars which is usually bought by the middle-class earners. Also the film being advertised target an age group of about 25+, as there are films included in the magazine, which were made in 1970s, hence an older target group.
