Marketisation of a film is hugely significant in whether the film becomes successful like Avatar for unsuccessful like wild wild west. Marketisation include various section such as advertisement through a poser, teaser trailer through the TV and internet and distribution of a film e.g. Warner Bros. Depending on the amount of disposable income you have will tell you whether you will be able to able to market your film thoroughly.
My task is to create a promotional package. I have realised that poster tend to appear earlier than the actual teaser trailer through various films and TV adverts I have seen. Some films release their posters up to 8 months before their actual trailer appears. This would create audience buzz about the film and therefore when the trailer comes out the most people have heard about, dragging a greater audience towards the film.
My target audience is between ages 16-24. This is a common target audience for a horror film. I will release the poster about 2 months before the actual film. The reasons are that I want to create an awareness of my film. When the interest of my film is at its highest point then the teaser trailer will appear giving viewers more knowledge of what the film may be about. Poster create more awareness as you do not have to be sitting in a cinema or in front of a TV to see it, you can just be walking home and see it on a bus. Posters are seen for a very long time as is a cheap way of publicising films. The placing of your poster is very important as it must be in a place where many people pass by such as a tube station. In addition posters are very versatile as it could be in a station or a magazine cover.
In my poster I would like to include an image of the masked villain holding a knife in a spooky background with a chill to the bone slogan such as 'Death is Inevitable'. As my film is not known across the globe I will only be able to use about two types of posters, whereas other more successful/ noticeable films such as Harry Potter will produce about 7 or 8 different types of posters as they have the resources to do so.
The second part of my promotional package would be the teaser trailer. I would want my teaser trailer to be played during the adverts in the cinema preferably before Horror films as its audience will be similar to my established target audience. My teaser trailer would be released second as it builds on the audiences hype and gives them some answers to their questions.
The last thing in my promotional package would be the magazine cover. This is because the magazine cover will allow their audience to gain an insight in to the structure of the film. Furthermore the magazine cover could include interviews of the director and other various characters of the film. This film magazine's main objective is to give readers more knowledge and understanding of the film.
